Who are we..?

A bit of history…

Achieving success in exams hinges on thorough preparation, and the most effective way to gear up for the SCA Exam is through engaging with patients and simulating real-life scenarios. During our revision period, we noticed a gap in the availability of dependable revision resources. The materials at hand, including books, often felt outdated, while online courses and resources were prohibitively expensive. This realisation led to the inception of the original revision platform, CSA Revision. Our mission was to offer affordable, up-to-date, and exam-relevant practice cases. And we did just that. Over its four-year tenure, CSA Revision assisted more than 2000 candidates in acing their exams.

However, in July 2020, due to COVID-19, the landscape shifted with the discontinuation of the CSA exam and the introduction of the RCA as a temporary measure. This change rendered our revision website redundant, leading to the closure of CSA Revision.

Fast forward to 2023, the RCGP announced a return to a case-based exam format, replete with role-playing actors. This development signalled a need for a renewed, case-based revision tool. Seizing the opportunity, we leapt back into action, armed with insights and experience from our original site. Our goal was not just to recreate but to enhance and deliver what might be the finest revision resource for the SCA exam. Thus, the birth of SCA Revision, a new chapter in our journey to provide exemplary exam preparation tools.

SCA Cases - What we’re all about!

SCA Cases is a resource meticulously crafted by General Practitioners who have triumphed in the MRCGP Final Exam. Our primary objective is to guide others towards achieving success in the SCA MRCGP exam. We firmly believe that preparation and practice are the cornerstones of success in any examination, and our website is dedicated to assisting you in both these areas.

We offer a selection of cases designed for role-playing, allowing you and your colleagues to engage in productive group learning. Each case is accompanied by a comprehensive marking sheet, which aligns with the RCGP's publicly available reference marking proforma. Moreover, every case is enriched with management advice and explanations free of complicated jargon, ensuring a clear and straightforward learning experience.

Our aim is to provide a practical, user-friendly platform that enhances your exam preparation journey, equipping you with the tools and confidence needed to excel in the SCA MRCGP exam.

It's important to emphasize that all cases on our platform are original creations by our team. Any resemblance to cases you might encounter in the exam is purely coincidental. We take our professional integrity very seriously and would never jeopardise our licenses by offering an unfair advantage in the exam.

However, we have leveraged our extensive experience in the field to develop cases that realistically mirror the types of scenarios, challenging cases, and complex patient interactions you are likely to face in the exam. Our goal is to provide you with a realistic and practical training experience, preparing you for a wide range of possibilities, while strictly adhering to ethical guidelines. Trust us to maintain the highest standards of professionalism as we help you prepare effectively for your exam.

Make the Most of our Cases

When preparing for the SCA, we recommend revising in small revision groups and meeting regularly to practice cases. To aid your revision we have written cases that resemble situations you may find in the exam. The cases are designed for role-play  - for each scenario, there is information for the Doctor, the Patient, and the Examiner.  We have included a marking scheme for each case, as well as a brief guide outlining the key learning points for each scenario.

The key to getting the most from role-play is in setting up a safe and effective environment. To do this, ensure that ground rules are in place, give yourselves time to get in and out of characters, and give individuals the option of opting out of a case should they desire. How you give feedback plays a large part in creating the right environment. There are many different models for feedback, the most common being Pendleton's model and ALOBA (agenda-led outcome-based analysis). The differences between them, including their pro's and cons are discussed succinctly here.
